Christian teens form all kinds of relationships. As I have had the privilege to talk with young men and young women throughout the Church, I have often heard that while a great many of you are interested in building better friendships with those of the opposite sex, you often struggle with knowing exactly how to make that happen. What does the Bible say about dating and sex? Around the beginning of February, youth pastors are scrambling and asking each other, "What should I put in my sex and relationships talk? The theory seems to be, in order to find the right long-term partner, you should date as many people as possible, and 'try out' all the aspects of a long-term relationship.
Some people I know who take this six won't even kiss during dating — they have a fantastic relationship!
Anyone who dates wants to ultimately end up in a happy relationship in which both man and woman show mutual love and respect for one another. In preparation for a discussion with our high school youth group on dating, I wrote this article from the outline I made. It is time for Christians to start talking about dating. A prominent Reformed theologian thinks it's unwise for teenagers to date while in high school, and says that youth, with some exceptions, should postpone it until they're spiritually mature and ready to move toward marriage. We get so many questions about dating, relationships, girlfriends and boyfriends, physical intimacy, and the whole list of awkward sex questions.
